High scientific-engineering potential of VNIIRA specialists is warranted by the fact
of development and creation of unique radio navigation, landing and aircraft movement control complex that was the first in the world to provide unmanned landing of "Buran" orbital space shuttle by airborne automated control systems on "Baikonur" space center in 1988.

VNIIRA scientists and engineers have
developed more than 200 prototypes of radio complexes and systems of ground-based and airborne equipment. VNIIRA was awarded more than 130 patents for inventions. In 1995, the Institute was awarded Gold Medal and in 1996, Silver Medal for great achievements on the "Brussels Eureka 2000" World Exhibition of Innovation, Research and New Technology.
